The Default
That Works.

Open transport is how 90% of vehicles move in America — including every new car delivered to a dealership. It’s the most common, most cost-effective method, and it works because the carriers in our network run these trailers as their daily business.

How It Works

From Quote to Delivered.

Same process we use for every service — but open transport is where it runs fastest, because this is the backbone every carrier in our network runs daily.

01
Tell Us the Route

Your origin, your destination, your vehicle, your timeline. Takes two minutes on the phone or the form.

02
We Match a Carrier

We find a licensed local carrier who runs your exact route on an open trailer. You get their name and contact before booking.

03
Pickup at Your Door

Carrier arrives with the open trailer, inspects your vehicle with you, loads it with industry-standard strapping.

04
Delivered

Track in real time. Final walk-around at delivery. Same carrier, start to finish — no handoffs.

Open vs. Enclosed

When Open Is Right.

Most cars ship open. Some should ship enclosed. Here’s the honest comparison so you can decide — or call us and we’ll tell you straight.

Questions

Open Transport FAQ.

Is open transport safe for my car?

Yes. Open transport is the same method every dealership and auto auction in the country uses. Every carrier we match you with is fully licensed and insured. Your vehicle is secured to the trailer with industry-standard strapping and covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance for the entire trip.

How much does open transport cost?

Costs vary by route, vehicle size, season, and how quickly you need pickup. Short routes like Orlando to Tampa can start at $275. Cross-country moves like Houston to Miami typically run $850 or more. We give you a firm all-inclusive quote within one hour — no bait-and-switch.

How long does open transport take?

Same-state routes are often same-day or next-day. Regional routes typically run 1–2 days. Cross-country moves take 5–9 days depending on route and weather. Your carrier gives you a real pickup window and delivery ETA before dispatch — not a guess.

Should I choose open or enclosed?

Open is the right call for daily drivers, most trucks, and most SUVs. Enclosed makes sense for luxury vehicles, classic cars, exotics, or anything with significant collector value. If your vehicle is worth more than about $70K or is irreplaceable, enclosed is worth the premium. Otherwise, open is fine — it’s what dealerships use.

Is my car exposed to weather on an open carrier?

Yes — like any car on the road. Open transport exposes your vehicle to the same weather conditions it would see if you drove it yourself. Road debris exposure is minimal thanks to the trailer design (your car sits above the road spray), and the carrier’s insurance covers any damage during transit.

Can I keep items in my car during open transport?

Carriers generally allow a small amount of personal items — think a duffel bag or two in the trunk, below the window line. Heavier items add weight that reduces fuel efficiency and can put you over DOT limits. Items aren’t covered by the cargo insurance. When in doubt, less is better.

Do I need to be there for pickup and delivery?

You or someone over 18 you authorize needs to be present for both pickup and delivery to inspect the vehicle with the carrier and sign the Bill of Lading. If you can’t be there, assign a friend, family member, or neighbor in advance.
